FOCUS FRIDAY

Tamlyn Leatt

Lakewood Ranch HS

  • How long have you been attending FCA?

I started attending FCA early my junior year of high school because I was wanting to get more involved in Christian clubs in my school. I joined the year after COVID struck hard, so FCA had decreased in size dramatically. I knew the potential that this club had, so I invited everyone I knew and worked hard alongside the other officers to help make this club what it is today.

  • What sport(s) do you play?

I have played pretty much every single sport in my lifetime, but currently I am most involved with soccer and cross country/track and field. I have played soccer since I was just 6 years old, and it has become such a fun passion of mine. I also started running competitively in high school, where I met some of my best friends to this day.

  • What are your plans after High School?

After high school, I am planning on attending either the University of Florida or the University of South Florida to pursue a major in Biology, where I will further my degree in either biomechanical engineering or health sciences. In college, I plan to continue to be involved in Christian organizations similar to FCA and may even start my own club! Also, a few years ago I was called into ministry and missionary work, which I plan to also get involved in after high school. I am so excited to see what God has planed for me and how he decides to use me to lead others to Him.

  • What's your favorite sports movie?

My favorite sports movie is definitely McFarland. I have watched this movie about a thousand times and it still inspires me and makes me laugh every time.

  • What's your favorite scripture?

My favorite scripture is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. This verse has gotten me through very troubling times of adversity and also been a constant reminder in my life that God is always there for me and that he is my rock.

  • Why is Christ in sports so important?

Christ in sports is so important because everything that you do on the field should reflect your morals and what you stand for. During intense games when others are spiraling out of control, it is so important to act in a Christ-like manor. Also, I know I am speaking for a lot of people when I say that I have met most of my friends through sport. Therefore, your sports team is the perfect place to influence others and teach them about God!
